Mangal Dosha in Detail

Mars in 1, 4, 7, 8, 12 of lunar chart. Also called Manglik dosha or kuja dosha or bhom dosha or angaraka dosha. Mars in any other fiery sign, also if in addition Saturn, rahu, ketu in above mentioned houses.

• In addition to mars, sun rahu ketu and Saturn’s placement in houses mentioned above also forms partial Manglik dosha.

Mars in various houses:

Ø 1- It’ll have a drishti i.e., it ascendant. Sees the 7^th house. 7^th house being house of spouse, mars will create quarrels on even minor issues. Here it indicates physical violence and sexual abuse. Because off cruel behavior, such a native will be despised by society and will not be able to gain assets.

Ø 4- This house represents happiness. This also affects work area. Will frequently change profession and jobs. Will not be economically successful. No job security.

Ø 7- It causes great anger. The native possess extra energy. Will never be sexually satisfied for the partner will not be able to match such native. Therefore it is possible for the native for having lot of partners or has abnormal interests such as domination, fetish, and bondage. Also will have differences with family members.

Ø 8- Loss of paternal property and bad relationship with elders of family. Will be lazy. Here brother will also not help. Will vile away the time and will expect the spouse to earn.

Ø 12-sudden financial losses indicated at this house. Lot of enemies and the enemies will always trouble such a native. Will have lot of mental problem and anxiety.

Ø Mars in own house or in exaltation will considerably reduce the ill effects of Manglik dosha.

Cancellation of Manglik dosha:

1)   When mars is in its own sign (Aries, Scorpio), exalted (Capricorn) or in the houses owned by planets supposed to be his friends (sun, Jupiter, moon) Manglik dosha gets cancelled.

2)   If mars is in 2^nd house but in Virgo sign then the Manglik dosha gets cancelled.

3)   If mars is in 12^th house but in Taurus, Libra then dosha gets cancelled

4)   If mars is in 7^th house but in cancer, Capricorn then dosha gets cancelled.

5)   If mars is in 8^th house but in Sagittarius, Pisces no dosha.

6)   For cancer and Leo ascendant mars is Yoga karaka (beneficial influence) wherever it maybe no dosha at all.

7)   For Aquarius ascendant, mars in 4^th or 8^th house then Manglik dosha gets cancelled.

8)   If benefic Jupiter or Venus ascendant no dosha.

9)   If mars is in conjunction or aspected by Jupiter/moon no dosha.

10) If mars is in conjunction/aspected by sun, mercury, Saturn, rahu then Manglik dosha does not exist.

Mars dosha gets neutralized completely (nirdosh mangal) if it (mars) occupies

1.   Sign of its deliberation(cancer)
2.   Sign of its enemy(Gemini/Virgo)
3.   Sign mesha and if it is in the first house.
4.   Sign Scorpio and if it is in fourth house.
5.   Sign Capricorn and if it is in seventh house.
6.   Sign Leo and if it is in eighth house.
7.   Sign Sagittarius and if it is in 12^th house.
8.   When it is aspected by Venus.
9.    Rahu, sani, sun in 1, 4, 7, 8, 12 and mars in some other place lower Manglik effect.

Neutralisation of Mangal Dosha

The blemish of Mars i.e. Manglik Dosha may be considered nullified in the following circumstances:
a) When the blemish exists in the horoscopes of both the boy and the girl.

b) When one chart had the blemish of Mars while the other chart shows its neutralisation by the placement of another malefic (sun, Saturn, Rahu or ketu) in one of the houses mentioned above.

From the above it is apparent that any malefic located in the houses 1, 4, 7, 8 or 12 from the lagna as well as the Moon in a given chart is not good for marital hormony unless equally matched by a similar disposition of malefics in the chart of the spouse. Preferably, the number of malefics influencing these houses must also be matched. Sometimes, remedial measures are prescribed to neutralise the Mangala Dosha.

Mangal Dosha

When Mars (Sevvai/Mangal) is placed at 1,2,4,7,8,12 from Ascending Lagna in Birth horoscope / jathaka this causes Sevvai Dosha. When the brides horoscope has Dosha it is feared that the husband/groom will suffer from Diseases, Financial debt, accidents and other mishaps. Similarly when the groom or boys horoscope has dosha the same effect will prevail. Some astrologers considers even the benefic planets like Jupier, venus and mercury gives worse effect than Mars under certain conditions and hence the importance for sevvai dosha should be decreased.

When either of the horoscope has sevvai dosha the other should also have dosha. For this reason a number persons suffer from late marriage. They don’t get a matching horoscope with dosha.

In a horoscope the 2nd 4th 7th and 8th houses are considered for family/money, mother/happiness, spouse and longevity respectively.

Mars is a natural malefic. It is responsible for blood, fire and dangerous weapons. When the malefic mar occupies these auspicious houses it is considered the good effect of these houses are spoiled.

But there are Nullification for Sevvai dosha.

For example, when mars occupies the 2nd house from ascending lagna it is considered dosha according to general rule. But according to special rule this is not a dosha for Libra and Pisces ascendants.

Similarly when mars occupies 4th house from lagna its is dosha by General rule. But for Cancer and Aquarius ascendants it is not dosha when sevvai occupies 4th house (Libra and Taurus respectively)

Similarly sevvai causes dosha when it occupies 8th house from ascendant. For Aquarius ascendant this is not a dosha when mars occupies 8th (Virgo)

When sevvai occupies 12th house this is not dosha for Cancer Ascendants.

For Libra ascendants it is not dosha when mars occupies 7th house (Aries)

For Capricorn and Taurus ascendants it is not dosha when mars occupies 7th house.

Irrespective of the house when the house is owned by sun or moon (Leo and Cancer) sevvai dosha is nullified.

When sevvai occupies any one of the moving signs (Sara rashi) Mesha, kadaka, Thulam, Makaram it is not dosha according to Special rule.

When there is dosha according to general rule, if Saturn accompanies or aspects mars, sevvai dosha is nullified.

When Jupiter aspects mars sevvai dosha is nullified.(Aspect is detailed in another article)

Some experts suggest when Vimshottari dasha for mars is finished the dosha will have no effect.
